Bakers Creek is part of the traditional lands of the Yuwibara people.
Named after John T. Baker who was appointed as customs officer to the new port of Mackay in 1863, notable European development includes the establishment of the Dundula railway station in 1913 and the Dundula Primary School, opened in 1922.
Employment growth blossomed in 1965 when the state government opened the local abattoir.
